School Resource Center (SRC)

What Is the School Resource Center (SRC)?

Research shows that when students miss a lot of school — whether due to excessive absences or behavior-related suspensions — they fall behind academically. Over time, they are more likely to drop out or become involved with the justice system.

The School Resource Center (SRC) works with students, families, and staff in elementary schools to reduce the barriers that keep kids out of the classroom and help make sure every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.

It’s not just about fixing behavior — it’s about giving kids the tools and resources they need to succeed.

How the SRC Helps

We provide support in four key areas:

Building Trusting Relationships

Kids who don’t feel like the adults around them listen to or care about them have more trouble staying calm, focused, and in control of their behavior. SRC teams use a model called Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) to help staff connect with students in meaningful ways.

Developing Emotional & Social Skills

Sometimes kids act out because they need help dealing with big feelings. Our Connection Facilitators share helpful strategies for calming down with students and the teachers who support them. They also work with students one-on-one or in small groups to teach important social skills like empathy, respect, and cooperation.

Preventing & Resolving Conflict

Occasional disagreements are unavoidable, but arguments that escalate into bullying or even violence shouldn’t be. Unfortunately, we aren’t born knowing how to navigate conflict in healthy, productive ways. Our Conflict Resolution Coordinator teaches students how to settle disputes appropriately, with respectful and thoughtful communication.

Addressing Absences Early

There are many valid reasons a student may miss school from time to time, but repeated or frequent unexcused absences can signal deeper issues. Truancy is rarely about unwillingness — it’s often a reflection of larger systemic barriers. Our TASC Attendance Specialists partner with families to find out what’s getting in the way of attendance and connect them with the support and resources they need to overcome those challenges.

Where We Work

SRC teams currently serve four elementary campuses in Caddo Parish; each SRC team is led by a Coordinator who works directly with school administration to ensure the needs of the school are being met.
