Volunteers for Youth Justice’s JumpStart program offers a diversion program providing educational workshops in a support group setting with facilitators trained to address the needs of at-risk youth.
Jump Start
Stamp Out Shoplifting (SOS)
SOS is a class targeted to youth with theft offenses. Students are required to attend a 4-hour workshop, complete community service and personally deliver a written apology to the store manager or owner of the stolen item. Parent participation is required.
Power Of Choice (POC)
POC is a 6-session series of classes that encourages youth participants to consider how their decisions impact their lives. A variety of topics are explored in POC, including peer pressure, goal-setting, conflict resolution, sexual responsibility, substance abuse, and the importance of an education. The program teaches students positive ways to exercise the POWER OF CHOICE in their decision-making. Parent participation is required.
