Volunteers for Youth Justice (VYJ) is proud to announce that Alex Person, our Community Engagement Director, has been recognized as a 2024 Women of Distinction honoree by the Girl Scouts of Louisiana Pines to the Gulf. The award ceremony took place, today, Thursday, September 19th, 2024, at the LSU Shreveport Ballroom.
Alex was one of nine distinguished honorees celebrated for her outstanding contributions to the community and her unwavering commitment to youth. This year’s honorees also include Gisele Proby-Bryant, Dr. Heather Carpenter, Dr. Tiffany George, Kristen Powers, Latoria Thomas, Dr. Regina Webb, and Felecia Williams. Victor Thomas received the “Man Enough to be a Girl Scout” honor.
In addition to her role at VYJ, Alex serves as the current president of the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier. She is actively involved in several community organizations, including Bossier Youth Leadership, and the Commission for Women in Bossier City, and is a member of First Baptist Church of Haughton. Not only does Alex teach 11th-grade Sunday school, but she’s also an adjunct professor at Louisiana Tech University. She earned her undergraduate degree from Louisiana Tech University and her master’s degree from Louisiana State University Shreveport.
“Alex’s dedication to the community and her work with youth exemplify the spirit of the Women of Distinction award,” said Kelli Todd, Executive Director of Volunteers for Youth Justice. “We are incredibly proud of her achievements and the positive influence she continues to have on our community.”
The Women of Distinction award honors women who demonstrate exceptional leadership, commitment, and advocacy in their communities, serving as role models for future generations.
