Volunteers for Youth Justice to Host Youth Empowerment Center Open House

Volunteers for Youth Justice (VYJ) is thrilled to announce the relaunch of its revitalized Youth Empowerment Center (YEC), formerly known as the Misdemeanor Referral Center. This important event will take place on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and will feature an open house with light refreshments.

The rebranded Youth Empowerment Center represents a renewed commitment to addressing the challenges faced by juveniles involved in misdemeanor offenses. Established initially in March 2019, the YEC continues to be a vital resource for diverting at-risk youth from the juvenile justice system and towards positive intervention, rehabilitation, and support.

Event Details:

  • Open House Date: Wednesday, September 18, 2024
  • Time: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • Location: Youth Empowerment Center, The Harbor, 3004 Knight Street, Building 6, Shreveport, LA 71105

The Youth Empowerment Center’s mission is grounded in the belief that early intervention and access to supportive services can dramatically alter the trajectory of young lives. By offering a comprehensive approach that includes legal, educational, and emotional support, the YEC aims to address the underlying issues leading to juvenile misdemeanors, such as economic disadvantage, lack of positive role models, and educational challenges.

Key Objectives of the Youth Empowerment Center:

  • Early Intervention: Redirect at-risk youth from the juvenile justice system to constructive and supportive pathways.
  • Holistic Support: Provide comprehensive legal, educational, and emotional support to address root causes of juvenile offenses.
  • Community Connection: Link youth with essential community resources and support services.

The relaunch of the Youth Empowerment Center signifies VYJ’s ongoing dedication to fostering a supportive community environment where children and families in crisis can find the help they need to rebuild and thrive.
