Conflict Resolution

Conflict Resolution is a collaborative effort between Volunteers for Youth Justice and the Caddo Parish School Board. The program addresses the dynamics that lead to violent behavior, prevents school fight violations, and is structured to bring awareness to children and their entire families.

In 2023, the Conflict Resolution program served 1,769 students. A total of 943 students took part in a 6-week preventative curriculum. After an incident at a local school, 826 students participated in a one-day class that allowed them to return to school equipped with tools to settle their interpersonal issues without violence.

How Does It Work?

Middle and high school students who have a first fight during the school year are eligible for the Conflict Resolution Program. Students are referred to the program through the schools’ principals.

Does It Help?

If a student chooses to participate in the program, and it is successfully completed within the time required, the student will avoid a court appearance for that particular offense. Students are also able to shorten their out-of-school suspension days. The program also accepts referrals of students for prevention of a fight.
