VYJ Celebrates Long-Time Volunteer Ms. Ernestine Schram

Shreveport, LA — July 10, 2024 — Volunteers for Youth Justice invites you to meet Ms. Ernestine Schram, an esteemed Louisiana artist and cherished former CASA volunteer and board member of VYJ, as she continues to inspire through her artistic talent and dedication to community service. At 101 years old, Ms. Schram remains an influential figure in Shreveport’s art scene and beyond.

Background: Ernestine Schram’s artistic journey spans over 50 years, is marked by numerous successful one-woman art shows, and has sold over 100 pieces. Each artwork Ms. Schram creates includes a letter on the back for the buyer, sharing her inspiration and connection to the painting. Ms. Schram is still a spitfire at 101 years young and has not only hung out with notable greats like Liberace, but she was also acquainted with General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s mother, Ida Elizabeth Stover Eisenhower. Her stories and wisdom will leave you alternatively in tears of laughter and just plain tears. You don’t want to miss your opportunity to meet Ms. Ernestine!

The Ernestine Schram Art Scholarship: In recognition of Ms. Schram’s lifelong commitment to our community, Volunteers for Youth Justice has proudly offered five students free tuition via the Ernestine Schram Art Scholarship in her honor for our annual art camp at The Harbor in Shreveport. These scholarships provide aspiring young artists with the opportunity to explore and develop their creative talents under the guidance of mentors Brandon Armstrong and Cassidy Adams.

Event Details: The art camp will run from July 15th to July 26th, culminating in the Art Camp Showcase on Friday, July 26th at 10 am, where Ms. Schram will be available for interviews. This event not only celebrates the artistic achievements of the camp participants but also highlights Ms. Schram’s impact on our community.
